Derby musician Paul Whittington is set to release an album under the moniker "wwolves" in the next couple of months. As well as playing bass for local pop-punk bands Burdock and Ejectorseat, Paul had been writing his own material for a while and decided to hook up with local producer Chris Harding in 2010 to get the songs down in the studio.
Inviting other local musicians to collaborate has seen the album grow into a huge project, with the songs now including strings, brass, piano and pedal steel in the mix.
A live band is now being put together for gigs in early Summer. The single (a double A-side) containing the tracks "Something's Got To Give" and "It's Morning" was released last week on CD and download, and the album, entitled "...For Victory" will follow in April.
When you hear them play it's hard to believe that they're from Derbyshire as the sound is pure Americana with the slide guitar evoking memories of Crosby, Stills and Nash, Neil Young and Gregg Allman. Great sound, professional production, pure class.
