It's a common for PR releases and publications to promote new bands as having a unique sound but it's rare for this website to use the word, And yet, there is no other way to describe the London four-piece Lazlo Device. Listen to 'Bleeding From the Waistline' and just as you think you recognise the influences it changes and you're in unfamiliar territory.
Anyway, for the record they do list their influences as, in their youth, Nirvana, Radiohead, Mogwai and Elbow, with old heroes Joy Division, The Pixies and The Cure joined by a modern taste for Late of the Pier, Caribou, Grizzly Bear and Wild Beasts.
They claim to have once been described as "a distorted Wild Beasts" by a pissed bloke in a pub and perhaps that is the closest comparison. Hopefully they can emulate the success, distorted or otherwise, of their Lake Disctrict, peers - certainly the few tracks produced so far point to bigger and better things.
The Lazlo Device are former members of electro-rockers Goldroom, Dan Murdoch (vocals, bass) and Ross Saunders (guitar) along with old friend Mark Litobarski (guitar) and bearded semi-sibling Russell Thomas (drums)
