James Haitchwai has been doing my thing on the DC indie scene since 2003 and has just self-released a new EP, James Haitchwai Is Dead.

It is now available on a name your own price download. Although James would be happy for you to enjoy his music for free if you wish, it would help cover his recording and hosting costs to make a donation to help him continue his good work. Anyway, have a listen below and make your mind up.

The Playmakers are a three piece band from Cirencester in Gloucestershire. Newly formed and young - they are playing locally, Cheltenham, Swindon, Bristol and have some gigs in London - The Hope & Anchor, Camden Rock and The Brixton Jamm.

They claim to be more like the post punk/new wave scene than the present indie scene and their influences are many and include The Clash, Dr Feelgood, The Jam, Libertines, Joy Division.

The Dusk are from Greater Manchester (Middlewich in Cheshire to be precise) but they follow in the Manchester tradition of producing great electro-indie rock music. From Happy Mondays to Doves and more recently Delphic and Hurts, this area of North west England seems to produce some of the finest indie dance music.

The 5 piece comprises of Alastair Gunn on lead guitar (songwriter), James Grierson vocals (Lyrics), Mark Roberts on Rythm Guitar, Chis Cleland Bass and Jansson Bostock Drums and Percussion.

Being billed as the UK’s answer to Kings of Leon immediately lumps a rather large weight on the shoulders of London trio Them Changes. But nevertheless, that seems to be the word about town.

Not bad for an act that started its life as Michael Kiwanuka’s backing band. They eventually decided to form their own group last year, and now they’re being managed by Steve Whiteley (formerly of ATC Management). Their debut single “Lie to Me” features catchy, wailing vocals with huge guitar riffs and vocal harmonies – catchy enough for commercial appeal without alienating  their already growing ‘Camden crowd’ fan base.

The Wutars are an unsigned 5 piece act, formed in 2005, from High Wycombe

The band will release their second EP aptly titled EP2, through their own Very Decent Music label and Tri-Tone/PIAS UK on 4th July.

In their own words the EP is a skiffle-funk-pop-gospel-swing sensation - I couldn't have put it better myself. The EP is a damn fine collection of 5 upbeat fun songs in 'The Kooks' tradition. Check it out.

NitroVille is an unsigned Hardrock Blues band from London, formed in early 2010 by vocalist Tola Lamont and guitarist Kurt Michael Boeck.

After spending six months creating a powerful and distinctive sound, NitroVille produced an eleven track album with renowned producer Mark Waterman (Ride, Smashing Pumpkins) at London’s Fortress Studios (Biffy Clyro, Nickleback, Therapy). NitroVille doesn't rely on heavy post production and effects, instead, the band delivers a rough on the edges and impulsive Hardrock, celebrating vintage valve amps without fancy pedals.

Simondo Dragons a.k.a. Thomas Simondo is from Glasgow and creates dreamy/ambient/folk/electronic music. His debut album 'a to m' was released this week and he is giving it away as a free download.

Are the track titles unimaginative or does Simondo Dragons want the music to speak for itself without being 'tagged'? Anyway, whatever the reasons the tracks are genuinely good stuff and show great promise from this talented musician.

Our Ghosts, a.k.a. Jim Gray was born and raised in Vermont USA. Jim Gray started playing music in  high school. After leaving college, playing in punk bands, travelling a bit (and lots of drinking), Jim moved to the Boston area to look for work.

After trying to form a couple of bands there he changed tact and decided to create a conceptual 'anti-pop' album. To quote Jim 'Anti-pop is inspired and influenced by popular music styles with punk rock ethos, and is presented as an alternative to the auto-tuned, over-compressed mumbo-jumbo that is Top 40 radio.'

Rhode Island Red are a London-based hard rock band formed in late 2009 by guitarist Dave Garfield and vocalist Lyla D'Souza.

Lyla is a London based rock/soul singer songwriter who has been performing across the UK, Europe and Australasia.

Dave has lived and worked in Amsterdam and Cologne, recorded for EMI Germany and BMG Germany and has gigged and recorded all over Europe playing many festivals and TV shows and supported major artists on tour such as Joe Cocker, Rammstein and Die Arzte.

Less than a year after forming in a backstreet pub in Dewsbury, Little Vegas Lies have released an EP ‘A Truth Not Far Away’.

The EP is a very confident debut from the West Yorkshire 5 piece with strong vocals on original songs. The four musicians show an obvious talent but complement the vocals rather than try to take over, producing, (in their own words) their unmistakable tight, rhythmic and melodic songs.

4th of July sees Little Vegas Lies release track 3 from the EP as their first single called ‘My Ghost Town’.
