A good solid debut, with confident guitar riffs and bass lines

Today see's the physical release of the debut album 'Mater I am' from Emerald. You could digitally download it earlier this month.

Emerald are a 5-piece melodic rock band with an international pedigree formed at the end of 2006 by Irish drummer/song-writer Thomas Maher. He claims Thin Lizzie as an influence and I wonder if the band took their name from the track on the classic Jailbreak album?

Emerald has spent the last 3 years gigging all across the UK and Europe, resulting in  a feature on MTV Europe, TV Exposure on the BBC and radio play in Japan, America, Australia, India and various European national stations.  The constant gig schedules have helped the band create and maintain a seriously impressive fan base that regard them as one of the premier independent rock bands on the current circuit.

Although the album is not particularly original, it is a good solid debut, with confident guitar riffs and bass lines and will appeal to those who enjoy classic British (and Irish) rock in the Iron Maiden/Black Sabbath tradition.Those of you that have nothing better to do may have noticed that the title track was the official BBC theme tune to the Masters Snooker Tournament 2010.
