An Aberdeen student is preparing to raise a large sum of money for the Gambian Schools Trust with a charity gig held in the city centre.

Emma Wright, 19, studying Primary Education at the University of Aberdeen, is passionate about teaching and aims to raise as much money as possible for the Gambian Schools Trust with a top charity gig.

The Gig for Gambia, to be held on the 24th of June at The Tunnels, Aberdeen, will feature a stellar line-up of the city’s top singer-songwriters. Appearing at the event, which kicks off at 6.30pm, will be:-

• Steven Winton,
• Ashley Park,
• Oliver Richards,
• Davy Shanks,
• Craig John Davidson
• Foxhunting.

Emma Wright said: “Education is one of my top priorities, and I want to raise as much money as possible so that children in Gambia are able to go to school. I hope to be able to teach over there in my holidays next year, and see for myself what the charity has achieved with the money raised by this gig.”

Hilary Lawther, a Gambian Schools Trust Committee Member, said: “The Gambian Schools Trust raises money to build nurseries and schools, and provide educational resources, in Gambia. We are currently fundraising to extend an existing nursery with the aim of reducing its waiting list.

“The money raised at the Gig for Gambia will go a long way towards making this happen, so I hope that people from all across the city will head down and show their support.”
