After sitting for a good ten minutes thinking how brilliant ‘Coo Woo’ is for a name for a band, I began sinking into their new début EP Stay Forever. The indie pop band based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin have created an unusual vibe throughout this EP which I can easily relate to the unique art rock group Arcade Fire, heavily concentrating on instruments, instantly making you reach for your dancing shoes.
With little known about this band, the anonymity seems to make me want to listen more. With vocals from a front lady, yes lady, it seems to make me even more attracted to this EP - changing up the predictable routine of an indie band with a Pete Doherty, stereotypical front man. Yawn. With front woman groups such as band Warpaint soaring with popularity for their unique edge, I’m sure they would give Coo Woo a thumbs up for the vocals within Stay Forever, let alone the catchy beat - creating a twist to the usual indie pop we would often predict.
The band who have only recently finished part one of their self recorded EP gives us much anticipation and excitement to what could possibly be next for part 2. Maybe part 2 determines whether Coo Woo makes or breaks? Maybe not. But I will say one thing, Back to the Future Part 2 was never as brilliant and successful as 1. Can they continue this unique and upbeat style? Hopefully, because I sure can’t get this catchy, summer sounding tune out of my head.
