Blitzen Trapper - Love The Way You Walk Away
Good ole’ boy music. So many fake it, but Blitzen Trapper does it so naturally that it feels like their jams could conceivably come from any era (well, after the ’60s, at least). “Love The Way You Walk Away,” a cut off their new Sub Pop LP American Goldwing, gets in some twang, banjo finger-picking and vocal harmonies that touch on the Grateful Dead and “drinking too much tonight.” If you have a creek nearby, grab some brews and some bros and go live it up. American Goldwing is out now.
Tycho - Hours (Teen Daze Remix)
Tycho let “Hours” loose last month and its soft, rolling synth melodies quickly became one of our favorite sonic explorations of the year. Here, the track gets remixed by Teen Daze – a Vancouver solo artist that also produces sublime doses of looking-out-an-airplane-window music. Hear the original’s fog swirl into blurry, ecstasy-munching headphone candy.
Wild Flag - Romance
Yes, Wild Flag is an indie supergroup with Mary Timony (Helium), Rebecca Cole (The Minders) and Janet Weiss and Carrie Brownstein from Sleater-Kinney, but on the band’s self-titled debut there’s an energetic, blazing sound that’s all their own. “Romance” is a good crash course. Weiss’ thunderous drums provide an anchor as the instruments jab in playful bursts of punk, riff rock and psychedelia. “Sound is the blood between me and you,” go the lyrics, and that seems to be the point here – some music lifers sharing their deepest bond. Grab the group’s debut on Merge.
The Antlers - Every Night My Teeth Are Falling Out
I’ve never actually had that dream where “Every Night My Teeth Are Falling Out,” but if it’s anything like The Antlers’ mildly Spanish, strummy, bumpy, vulnerable rock nightmare, then I look forward to it. Another thing I’m looking forward to? Getting killed softly by more of the melodious same on The Antlers’ latest LP, Burst Apart—out on Trangressive now.
