A gift this morning from one of Montreal’s finest and most generous, Miracle Fortress. Pantha du Prince’s dulcet rework of “Raw Spectacle” pleasantly thumps along for two minutes before allowing Graham Van Pelt’s beachy breath to penetrate its chilly techno fortress. Totally great. Was I The Wave? is the name of Miracle’s LP out now on Secret City, and you should definitely go buy it.

Will music made on an iPad ever feel organic rather than alien? A grand debate of our times, yes, but this new one from Baths, “Exit The Mine,” makes a good case that emotional music can be made with little more than a tablet and some electricity. Will Wiesenfeld used the Beatmaker2 app for the track’s composition, yet its airy, roomy core sounds more like he connected a single microphone to a delay pedal in the center of a breeze-filled room. Pretty and appropriately autumnal.
